TUESDAY

PinExt TUESDAY

I have anticipated sharing this outfit for many reasons…grey distressed skinnies, vintage tee, handcrafted jewelry, and my new favorite CLARE VIVIER that I featured in my last post (other favorites: here,  herehere, & here). I typically wear this look with no blazer and a slouchy boot, however I liked the way the heel and lightweight jacket refined it somewhat. I wish I could claim this amazing necklace as my own, however it was borrowed out of my sister’s closet. She made it herself at a fun little place called Brina Beads in Atlanta, Ga. If you are ever in the area it’s definitely worth stopping by!

On another note, I have had several people contact me about the “messy bun” and how to accomplish the look.  When I do this look, my hair typically already has some texture in it…like previously curled, teased, hair sprayed. Also my hair is extremely dry (basically horse hair) so it tends to hold a look. If you have soft, fine hair you will really need to add more hairspray or tease so that it has texture. To create this look, I act like I am doing a regular ponytail (either a low or high depending on where I want my bun) and using a regular ponytail holder and twist my hair into a bun and wrap it twice with the ponytail holder. I buy the skinny ponytail holders so its not a super tight hold (this will all depend on how thin or thick your hair is). I then start pulling out pieces of hair and placing them in all directions with bobby pins. I typically use 7-8 bobby pins (sometimes more to achieve the look I want). I then spray it down with a strong hair spray and I’m done! I know this sounds a lot easier than what it really is! Sometimes I will attempt to do a bun and it just doesn’t work so I’ll move on to something else. It definitely take some practice till you can get it down. I hope this provides some insight on creating this look! Please feel free to email me with further questions. There are also great resources and videos to watch if you just search “messy buns” on youtube. There are many different ways to accomplish this look, you just have to find what works for your hair!

PS. I got the poncho from C & V on your previous post, so excited!!!

  8. Oh my gosh I love this look! My favorite color is red so of course I love the blazer, but especially love the clutch!!!

  9. Best look you have posted so far!

A little note for your readers……Mary’s hair pretty much looks amazing all the time with little effort. She literally throws a few pins in and it looks like the above, so don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t work for you the first time!

    • Wow!! Thanks Steph…that means sooo much coming from you!!! So much of what I do is inspired by your unending source of knowledge!

  10. I love this look. Is the blazer structured or more of a soft sweatshirt type? Also wondering if it runs true to size as I’ve never ordered from ZARA. Thanks! Love the blog!

    • Hi Molly! The blazer is a soft sweater material. It has a very relaxed fit. I typically wear xs-s and I ordered it in a xsmall. I have broad shoulders and was a little worried, however it fit fine. I would highly recommend it! Hope you love it!

  11. I love the whole look, esp that necklace. how pretty!

  14. That necklace is fantastic.
